Venture-backed consumer electronics, mobile and media firm Sling Media, creators of the award winning Slingbox, seeks a qualified candidate to help develop and ship an exciting new family of consumer entertainment products and services.  The company’s products are focused on networked multi-media with an emphasis on high-quality streaming video.  While the company is still small (< 200 people), we are developing a strong intellectual property portfolio and already have several products in the marketplace.  We have a world-class leadership team with extensive pedigree.  The DIR CD & UE position will report to the Vice President of Product Marketing and Product Management in charge of global hardware & software products.  The position is located in Foster City, CA.

Responsibilities:

The Director of Creative Design & User Experience will be primarily responsible for managing a team of creative professionals who are in charge of the overall user experience of the consumer electronics hardware, PC/Mac/Mobile software and entertainment services Sling develops and ships worldwide.  This includes graphics design, user interface design, user experience research and overall product usability.  In order to do this effectively, the DUE will need to lead the team in developing a strategy and process for user experience architecture & design, including wireframes, prototypes, usability testing and production of necessary assets for product development. Knowledge of PC, Internet, television and mobile software applications, interaction models and consumer behavior patterns will be mandatory.

The DUE will work with the overall executive team, including product marketing, consumer marketing, customer support, engineering, and QA on product features, positioning and overall usability, primarily to ensure the internal teams are properly aware of the importance of user experience design in the acceptance and success of our products in the marketplace and are prioritizing product development tasks accordingly.  The DUE will also be required to develop testing methodology for exploring new product features, functionality, user interactions and for the production of user interface design specifications.  The DUE may also be asked to participate in industry panels, speak at industry engagements or to participate in media and analyst briefings.

Experience:
  • Savvy user experience designer with at least 7 years of work experience in a user experience design capacity for consumer oriented products and services
  • Entrepreneurial self-starter who enjoys a fast-paced environment and seeks the challenge of rapidly changing marketplace
  • Proven ability to meet and exceed quantitative goals and consistently meet deadlines
  • Results-oriented, self-motivated team player and a professional presence
  • Strong communication and persuasion skills, both written and oral
  • Outstanding quantitative/analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proficient with MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel and a wide-range of creative production applications

Education:

BA/BS Business/Engineering, Marketing or related is a mandatory requirement.  MBA a plus, but not required.
