Overview
We are looking for a Systems Architect and Operations Director with significant experience and a proven track-record in the design, implementation and support of high performance, highly available server and network architectures. The candidate will be responsible for service delivery quality, building systems architecture roadmap, interacting with Software Engineering/Product Development, as well as managing and growing a team of systems and database administrators. The role is expected to include hands-on assistance to the team, as required.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead the efforts for the design, implementation, maintenance and support of the systems architecture for Sling Media’s web applications and backend systems
- Manage a team of systems and database administrators/engineers
- Partner with software engineering to develop and drive a strategic technology roadmap
- Develop methodologies to manage systems performance and capacity for growth
- As a project team leader, draft technical requirements and designs; develop test and implementation plans; manage issues pertaining to schedule, resourcing, and risk
- Participate in the selection and timing of project or program investments based on the organization’s strategic plan and available resources
- Present proposed technical solutions and other materials to various teams within the organization
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with peers, management, vendors, and interested parties to meet goals
- Draft and implement critical processes and procedures based on industry best practices
- Manage the operations team 24/7 on-call support procedures, and provide escalated support, as required
Job Specifications/Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- Masters degree or equivalent experience preferred
- 8+ years engineering and supporting systems infrastructures for three-tiered, Java-based application server environments
- 5 + years managing a team responsible for engineering and supporting large-scale, high performance, highly available 24x7 production systems environment
- Broad and deep knowledge of all areas of web-application infrastructures, including network, application server, and database systems
- Significant hands-on experience with many core technologies, including Oracle/MySQL databases, Java application servers (Tomcat, JBoss, etc), and server farm/data center networking technologies (switching, load balancing, security, etc)
- Possesses comprehensive business and technical knowledge, combined with keen management and organizational skills to oversee very complex projects, with high visibility and impact to the business
- Must have experience in managing critical systems in stringent SLA environments
- Broad knowledge of existing and emerging industry best practices
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
- Demonstrated experience in making articulate and effective oral presentations to different audiences.
- Ability to manage a high-performance team in a fast-paced environment
